Skills that need to be developed before you search for a Job

What is Skill ?

It is the combination of knowledge and abilities.  Some profession demand computer skills while others require communication skills, depending on area of interest you learn to build the skills that come under the demanded skill set of your career. Showing that you possesses such skills in your resume will definitely help you get your job.

There are two types of skill:

Hard Skill :These skills can be learned from a person, book, a course etc. which is extremely specific to your profession eg. data analysis, presentation skills etc

Soft Skill :They are difficult to teach, which makes them an interpersonal quality. This shows more of your personality. Even if you can list it in your resume ,it is something that is top be proven by action .Eg. Communication, critical thinking etc.

Skill sets are extremely important that it has the recognition of the Indian Government too. The National Skill Development Mission launched by the Government of India provides training to empower the next generation through skill development classes with the aim of ensuring employment opportunities. They offer courses in the field of life science, logistics, management , media,etc

Skills that need to be developed before you go for a Job

Keep in mind that each career field demands different skills sets, it is best to research before doing whatever everyone is doing. Because time is money and the faster you get better the higher the chances of reducing competition .So, choose  your options wisely:

  1. Communication : Ranked as one of the most important skills ever speaks a lot for itself. Being able to communicate is more than just knowing the language ,it takes a lot of talent to put the language into effective sentences irrespective of the field of work. Especially for an employee in the corporate world, it is all about giving out the correct information ,one small communication mistake can cause a lot of damage to the company. The skill can be demonstrated in the forms of verbal, non verbal or written.
  2. Academic and Business Writing: This skill comes under the communication part but it is itself another important skill. Writing skills are also extremely important  in almost all the field. These skills are clearly professional which means that this type of communication should be extremely formal which may cause difficulty even to regular speakers of the language. Written documents are used inside the company co-workers but also externally to clients. These documents might be mails, reports ,letters, memos, brochure, presentation.
  3. Public Speaking : when compared to the other communication skills , public speaking may only come in handy to a few. This skill is required for those who needs to address a larger audience such as speaking during a presentation or giving a live report or interview. Whether it may be a2 person meeting or a broadcast to thousands , one must be able to speak comfortably. Speaking correctly will help to get through the right information but also is one of the best ways to win over people. Hence it may come out as fundamental skill in many situations.
  4. Knowledge of more languages :Living in India already gives you the benefits of learning more than one language, most educated Indians are almost bilingual in nature. .But to make this better adding a useful foreign language to your resume may also help you to give a boost. Todays world is interconnected and interdependent which makes knowing more than one language a necessity to connect to people across the world. If your career path is well planned with a chance of working or studying abroad, learning the language of the country gives a lot of advantages.
  5. Networking: This simply means build  network of contacts across people of the same interest, industry, or profession .The major use of networking is to get referrals, one of the easiest way to know about a job opening or to even get a recommendation for a position is through meeting new people from the same field and connecting with them. This will also help you learn more about the job itself through other professionals.
  6. Tech Savvy : The interdependency of tech tools with life is inseparables of now, especially after the hit of the pandemic. Technology was the factor that helped all the fields  to reach people. So, employees who can put their part in helping companies in a similar way will always be considered better than anyone else. The better one can work with a computer the better is their chance of employment.
  7. Continuous Learning: The world is fast paced and so are the people .With several changes happening frequently whether it may be because of technology or the demand , the requirement of the labor also changes In short the skill set for a field is never permanent , it keeps evolving with the time .Thus there is a high need to keep up with these upgrades, which makes one entitled to keep themselves updated with the required skills every now and then by continuous upskilling.
  8. Adaptability: Possibility of growth in your role depends on how adaptable you are. This skill shows that you can take up any change in the intensity of your role by learning new things and making adjustments accordingly. It proves your responsibility towards your job which makes you a more desirable candidate. Getting out of your comfort zone or the willingness to take a risk are all examples of adaptability.
