Veterinary Science Course Job Prospects

Veterinary Science Course: With the rise of love and infections transmitted through animals a veteran job is more significant these days. In the earlier times a veterinarian was concerned with animals and their healthcare. But with the rise of zoonotic disease that is spread of infectious disease from animals to humans, the society is now looking up to the veterinarians to play a larger role in public health, the society is now looking  up to the veterinarians to play a larger role in public health -go beyond taking care of personal pets or commercial livestock, poultry etc.

Similarly in the past after graduating in veterinary science ,most professional either took a job in a veterinary hospital or started private practice. But now more options are available. There are opportunities in academia-be it teaching or veterinary hospital where one gets an opportunity to not only teach but also to give treatment to animals.

Joining a research institute is another attractive options .As a researcher you will be working on projects on finding new ways of prevention and treatment.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the focus was on the importance of epidemiologists. They are professionals who investigate various aspects of disease. Veterinarians too could pursue a career in epidemiology to investigate disease in general and zoonotic disease in particular.

Courses:

Bachelors program in  Veterinary Science / Veterinary Science and Animal husbandry ( B.V.Sc/ B.VSc &AH)

Eligibility:

10+2 /equivalent in science with physics ,chemistry and biology

Duration of Course:

  • 5 year course including 6 month internship
  • Master Degree Programs in Veterinary Science (MVSc)
  • It allows specialization in areas like poultry science, dairy production, dairy technology, dairy science , animal nutrition, pathology, parasitology, surgery,  animal reproduction, genetics and feed and fodder technology.

Admission:

Admission procedure varies from one university to another. So please check the admission procedure for individual university besides VCI admission to over 50 veterinary college in the country.

To put it simply, 15% of seats in over 50 participating college would be filled through NEET scores. The remaining 85% seats are filled by the college through their own process or entrance tests.

Job Prospects:

Expert Vets can entre State and Central government departments related to animal husbandry. They can also find employment in Veterinary hospitals, and clinics Veterinary college, dairy farms, poultry farms, zoological gardens, wild parks, research facilities etc.
