Auction of 5G Spectrum in India – The government has received record bids worth ?1.45 lakh crore after four rounds, the first day of India’s first 5G spectrum auction. At that time the government had raised Rs 1.09 lakh crore from the sale of 4G spectrum. This time a total of 72 GHz spectrum worth Rs 4.3 lakh crore has been put on the block in the auction. Its validity will be 20 years.
The auction is taking place for various low frequency band, medium and high frequency band radio waves. The company that is successful in this will be able to provide 5G service. In India, 5G is being claimed to be about 10 times faster than the current 4G service. Bidding started on Tuesday morning. Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Adani Data Networks are among the bidders.
5G will be costlier by about 10%-15% than 4G, Ashwini Vaishnav said, “The tariff of 5G services will be decided by the industry. So we will have to wait and see. While industry experts expect 5G services to be initially offered at a premium of 10-15% before the tariff is brought at par with 4G.
Spectrum allocation process completed by August 15, The minister said, “We will complete the spectrum allocation process by August 15 so that the industry can be ready to start 5G service.” After that telcos will work with a target to install the equipment and start the service by September-October.
More interest in 700 MHz, Vaishnav said, “All the required bands – 700 MHz, C-band (3.3-3.6 GHz), and mmWave (26 GHz) have seen interest from bidders. This shows that the industry has recovered from its tough times. The 600 MHz, 800 MHz and 2300 MHz bands put up for auction for the first time did not receive bids.

Adani deposited Rs 100 crore, Vodafone Idea has deposited Rs 2,200 crore, Bharti Airtel Rs 5,500 crore, Adani Data Networks Rs 100 crore and Reliance Jio Rs 14,000 crore, according to the list of pre-qualified bidders posted on the DoT website.
