Visvesvaraya Technological University is one of the largest and reputed engineering and technology universities in India. The university is of affiliating type with 144 colleges under its jurisdiction offering under graduate courses in 27 disciplines and post graduate programs 66 disciplines. Every year, about 45000 students get admitted to these colleges at various undergraduate programs and 7,500 students in post graduate programs.

The University also has 14 QIP centers in various affiliated colleges and 14 extension centers that are offering Masters-level courses. More than 200 departments of the university are recognized as research centers. Currently, more than 1000 students and faculties are registered for Ph.D. and more than 188 students are registered for their Msc. (Engg). This year, the university is awarding 35 Ph.D Degrees and 13 M.Sc degrees.
In 2006-2007, the faculty published around 300 research publications. Recently, the University started MBA and M.Tech Program.
VTU published results of eight semesters from July- December for various B.Tech/ B.E., Engineering courses.
