Introduction
Centre for Advanced Technology was founded by the Department of Atomic Energy, India to extend the activities conducted out at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, in two front fields of science and technology videlicet Lasers and gases. On February 19, 1984 the President of India, Gyani Zail Singh, arrange the foundation stone of the center. Building of laboratories and houses started in May 1984.

About the PhD
The Ph.D. programme comprises of course work of one year length and research work of up to 4 years length. The Ph.D. programme will start in the commencing of September 2010. DAE Junior Research Fellowships will be provided to those chose for the chase of Ph.D. programme. The fellowship amount is Rs. 12000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 14000 per month for the next three years subject to acceptable progress.

Eligibility

For Physics student
M.Sc. degree in Physics/Applied Physics or B. Tech/B.E. degree in Engineering Physics, with a lower limit of 60% marks, and who have passed Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST 2010).

For Chemistry and Life Sciences student
M.Sc. degree with lower limit 60% marks, in Chemistry or Life Sciences, and who have cleared joint CSIR-UGC Net-2009 and/or Gate (2009/ 2010), are eligible to apply. Those applicants whose final results of qualifying degree are awaited can also apply. In the case of selection, mark sheet of the last result would have to be presented by November 1, 2010. Continuation in the programme will be subject to the examinee getting lower limit 60% marks.

Age limit
The students wishful of availing DAE fellowship should have been born between 1 April 1992 and 31 March 1985… The age limit is relaxable by five years for SC/ST and by three years for OBC applicants.

Nationality
Student should be an Indian people.

Selection process
Selection of the students for the Ph.D. programme will be a two-step process: (1) Screening of short-list students followed by (2) Interview of the short-listed students. For Physics students, the short-list shall be prepared based on applicant’s marks in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST 2010).

For Chemistry and Life Sciences students, the short-list shall be prepared based on applicant’s score in CSIR-UGC Net-2009 and/or GATE-2009 / Gate-2010. Short-listed Physics students shall be called for interview to be carried in May & July 2010, at RRCAT, Indore-452013. Short-listed Chemistry and Life Sciences students shall be called for interview to be carried in July 2010.Outstation applicants called for interview will be paid to and fro sleeper class train fare by the shortest route or the actual fare, whichever is less.
