BITS Pilani Higher Degree Programmes and Ph. D Admissions 2010
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani is an Institution declared as Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC act. Applications are invited for admission to the following higher degree and Ph. D. programmes offered by the institute. Admissions will be made on all-India basis strictly according to merit and suitability of the candidate to pursue the following programmes of studies.
A. HIGHER DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Programmes Offered:
(i) at BITS, Pilani-Pilani Campus
M.E.: Biotechnology; Chemical; Chemical(with specialization in Petroleum Engineering); Civil(with specialization in Structural Engg./Transportation Engineering);Communi cation Engineering; Microelectronics; Electrical (with specialization in Power Electronics & Drives); Embedded Systems; Mechanical; Manufacturing Systems Engineering; Design Engineering; Computer Science; Software Systems.
M.Pharm.; M.Pharm.(with specialization in Pharmaceutics/ Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
Master of Business Administration (MBA) Master of Public Health (MPH)
(ii) at BITS, Pilani- K.K.Birla Goa Campus
M.E.: Biotechnology; Chemical; Design Engineering; Embedded Systems; Software Systems.
(iii) at BITS, Pilani-Hyderabad Campus
M.E: Microelectronics; Computer Science, Embedded Systems.
M.Pharm.; M.Pharm. (with specialization in Pharmaceutics/ Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
Duration: Normally Four Semesters
Admissions to Higher degree Programmes are based on the performance of the candidates in the computer based online test and/or written test, group discussions and interviews. The details of test, syllabus for the test and admissions modality are available at the BITS website, The online tests will be held during 12th -13,Th June 2010 at planned centers in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, Kolkatta, Nagpur, Noida & Pilani subject to a certain minimum number of candidates opting for each center. Based on test performance candidates will be short listed and asked to come to Pilani/Goa/Hyderabad on 27th July 2010 for interview at their own cost.
For MBA Programme, shortlisted candidates called for interview at Pilani on 27th July 2010 will also have to appear
for a test in Reading Comprehension and a Group Discussion.
Admissions to MPH are based on the performance of the candidates in a written test, followed by Group
discussion and interview which will be conducted in Pilani on 27th July2010.
Eligibility for Admissions:
A Minimum aggregate of 60% in the qualifying degree examination for All Programmes. See table below for programme wise eligibility.
Degree Programmes and Input Qualification
Biotechnology
Any integrated first degree of BITS or its equivalent with adequate preparation in Bio-chemistry and Microbiology.
Chemical; Civil; Computer Science; Mechanical
Integrated first degree of BITS in the same discipline or its equivalent.
Communication Engineering
Integrated first degree of BITS in Electrical & Electronics/ Electronics & Instrumentation or its equivalent.
Design Engineering; Manufacturing Systems Engineering
Integrated first degree of BITS in Mechanical or its equivalent or M.Sc. (Tech.) Engineering Technology of BITS or its equivalent with the requirement of taking certain additional courses.
Electrical with specialization in Power Electronics & Drives
Integrated first degree of BITS in Electrical & Electronics/ Electronics & Instrumentation or its equivalent.
Embedded Systems
Integrated first degree of BITS in Electrical & Electronics/ Electronics & Instrumentation/ Computer Science or its equivalent.
Microelectronics
Integrated first degree of BITS in Electrical & Electronics/ Electronics & Instrumentation/ Computer Science/ Physics or its equivalent.
Software Systems
Any Integrated first degree of BITS or its equivalent with specific prior preparation.
M.Pharm.
Integrated first degree of BITS in Pharmacy or its equivalent.
M.Pharm. (with specialization in Pharmacetical Chemistry/Pharmaceutics)
Integrated first degree of BITS in Pharmacy or its equivalent.
M.Phil. (Chemistry)
Integrated First Degree of BITS in M.Sc.(Hons.) Chemistry or its equivalent
B. Ph.D PROGRAMMES
Eligibility for Admissions:
Any Higher Degree of BITS or its equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate in the qualifying examination. Any applicant with qualification equivalent to Integrated first degree of BITS will be first examined for suitability to one of the higher degree programmes of the Institute. Such candidates may first be admitted to the M.E./M.Phil. programmes offered by the Institute subject to the eligibility conditions. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test/interview for selections. Selected candidates will be given financial assistance in the form of either a fellowship of any government agency or of the Institute, project or teaching assistantship, full/partial tuition waiver or a combination of these. Such selected candidates will be required to participate in teaching and any other developmental activities of the Institute under the guidance of a mentor.
Industries and R & D Organizations collaborating with BITS can sponsor candidates to work for Ph.D under the Ph.D Aspirants Scheme. Under this Scheme such Employed professionals working in Industries and R&D Organizations having long experience and proven competence aspiring for Ph.D. programme will be considered and will be allowed to pursue their research at their own locations of work. Employed Professionals working in Industries holding any of the BITS degree may also be considered under this scheme.
ASSISTANTSHIP/SCHOLARSHIP
Applicants for admission to the higher degree and Ph.D. programmes will also be considered for financial assistance in the form of Teaching/Project/Research Assistantships. Such selected candidates will be required to participate in teaching and other developmental programme of the institute under the guidance of a mentor. A limited number of scholarships are available to deserving candidates admitted to Higher Degree/Ph.D. Programme.
C. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Interested and eligible candidates should apply through the prescribed application form available online atwww.bitsadmission.com/hd and take the printout of the filled form. The completed application form alongwith the prescribed fee of Rs 1500/- should be sent to Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani-333031. Deadline for submission of the completed application form is 5.00 P.M. on 31st May 2010.
